Untitled DocumentMay 19th, 2013 5:41 PM Fairly certain this is the last day of Halibut season and the catching was great from what I have seen. Also most, boats caught some nice Lings too. The ocean was rough this morning but calmed a bit this afternoon.
May 18th, 2013 5:14 PM The current was very fast again today so getting down to the Lingcod was very difficult. Lost gear and anchors seemed to be the order of the day. The ocean was just up a bit too. Tomorrow will mark the last day for Halibut in our area. Should be a good day for the Charterboats tomorrow.
May 14th, 2013 6:06 PM It was another fine day out on the ocean and day number four of the directed Halibut fishery. The ocean was nice, the sun shined, and from what I could tell the fish bit like gangbusters! Both Halibut and Lincod did very well for us today.
May 12th, 2013 6:20 PM Third day of Halibut season, the ocean was a little bumby as I said it might be, so many of the private boats didn't get out. The charterboats did get out and the halibut catching was really good albeit the fish seemed a little smaller. Put all this together and it looks like we should get next Sunday in for Halibut. The Lingcod fishing was a little tougher as the current was ripping fast and hard to get the bait on the bottom. Some boasts did limit on the the Ling however. The rest of this week looks a little rough as far as weather goes but completely doable for the Charters.
May 11th, 2013 5:11 PM At this report time 5:05PM Many boats are still not back to the dock. I suspect that getting full limits today was a bit difficult plus the fact that most charters were fully booked today. The Ocean is in nice condition today but tomorrow may be a little bumpy for the long trip out to the Halibut grounds. My recommendation for you small boat operators is to check the weather and ocean conditions before you depart.
May 7th, 2013 7:59 AM Day two of the 2013 directed Halibut season produced limits for all on the charter fleet. The ocean was still fairly calm and some boats managed to eek out a round of lingcod also. The lings seemed a little more elusive today. Mid week bottom fish trips are lightly loaded so if you would like a boat with plenty of elbow room, come on down mid week. Next report will be Saturday.
May 5th, 2013 5:37 PM What a beautiful day for the Halibut opener! Of the boats I checked all boats had limits of Halibut and some had their Lingcod limits also.
May 4th, 2013 5:51 PM Rockfish and Lingcod were on the bite today with the Lingcod doing a little better than the Rockfish. You could not have a asked for a better ocean today and it looks good for at least a few more days. Halibut Season kicks off tomorrow and should be an awesome day for that at least weather wise. I will give a report tomorrow evening and let you know how we did.
April 27th, 2013 5:08 PM Aside from a little rain the ocean was in fair condition today.Rockfish seem to be more on the bite than previous weeks, maybe the crab spawn is moved off. Lingcod were a little more allusive today but most boats still land a good number of fish. Weather will be improving after tomorrow and should be good in the following week.
April 20th, 2013 5:08 PM Lingcod fishing seems to be holding up and should continue good thru Spring. The Rockfish are a little more elusive but still some boats managed to come in with limits. Ocean conditions look good for the near future in the way of wind and swell, rain and cool may be a little bothersome to some anglers but doesn't affect your ability to land your fish. Most boats are wide open for the mid week trips, so come on down.
April 14th, 2013 5:21 PM A number of Charterboats got out on the ocean today, after severe weather most of the last week. Most boats stayed out late as they left the dock later due to rough bar conditions. It looks like there were some nice lingcod caught today. Ocean conditions look good at least through Thursday this week. The charters have plenty of room for anglers so come on down.
April 6th, 2013 11:08 AM Weather has been a factor for the last few days so no charters have been out. The report from last trips out is Lingcod fishing has been good and the Rockfish have been a little harder to attract as they have been feasting on crab spawn and just aren't very hungry. We have managed to come back to the docks with an average of 5-6 per person of the Rockfish. Sunday is a no go and Monday may be doable but still the swell will be up, Tuesday and Wednesday don't look all that great. Be sure to keep in to touch with your Charter service regarding weather.
March 30th, 2013 5:09 PM Today was one of the best Spring fishing days I can recall. Limits of Ling and Rock were the order of the day along with a flat Ocean and clear blue sky. It just doesn't get any better. Come on down!
March 26th, 2013 2:47 PM Okay, I'm back. Sounds like the catching has been really good this past week with most boats getting good numbers of both Lingcod and Rockfish, The ocean conditions look very good for the near future, so come on down!
March 19th, 2013 5:50 PM I only know of one charterboat that was out today and they limited on both rockfish and lingcod. Weather will be a factor until at least Friday so no boats will be out until then. So, far the weekend looks good so if your freezer is empty of the white fish give your favorite charter service a call and get on board.Your fishing reporter will be out of town through the up coming weekend. So a report will be doubtful until next week.
March 16th, 2013 3:53 PM Well folks here we go again with another season of fishing reports brought to you by the Westport Charterboat Assn. I will try not to sugar coat things too much throughout the season although I will never say fishing is bad because as they say a bad day of fishing is always better than a good day at work....okay enough, here we go! The weather was a factor today and it looks like the Charters will not be allowed out on the ocean (by Mother Nature) tomorrow. The currents in some areas were strong but despite that some boats got limits of both Lingcod and Rockfish.
