Good Halibut fishing today. Calm in the morning - wind came up in the pm. 43 pounder the biggest one we weighed. Looks like Sunday will be the last day for directed halibut in Westport. Final decision tomorrow afternoon.

It was suppose to be a calmer ocean than it was today. A few of the charterboats didn't go. So, fishing was a bit tough today although most boats caught all the Halibut and some Lings also. The private fleet didn't fair so well as the ocean was too rough for the smaller boats. Tuesday looks a little questionable also, so check with your charter service before heading out to Westport.

It was another nice day out on the ocean, the wind came up a little in the afternoon but didn't affect catching fish at all. The rockfish seemed actually a little harder to get to go than the lingcod.

On day two of the 2012 Halibut season the charters got out and on the fishing grounds just before the wind picked up to about 25 knots. Most all were able to land their limits of halibut and a few of the boats were able to get some of the ling cod before the wind made fishing very difficult. Most boats headed in a little early because of the increasing high seas and wind.

The ocean was beautiful today on the 2012 Halibut opener. The Charters went North out of Westport and most boats caught limits of Halibut and close to limits of Lingcod also. Most boats were back to the dock early.

The weather finally straightened out just in time for this weekend! The ocean was fairly flat and the Lingcod were on the bite today. Halibut Season opens tomorrow and it looks like the ocean will be good to go. I will have a report tomorrow on the Halibut catch.

The current has been ripping very strong of late which affects the ability to get your line to the bottom when fishing for Lingcod. So if you happen to be in the area where the current isn't so strong you can do well, as some boats did today. Those that were out of the current limited on both Lingcod and Rockfish.

The weather was beautiful on the ocean today. Fishing was also good, the Lingcod took a little longer to boat today but some boats caught limits of both Rockfish and Lingcod.

April 14th, 2012 5:16 PM
Rockfish and Lingcod continue to bite well with most charterboats getting close to limits on both. The ocean was up to about 9 feet today but little wind made fishing easier.

Fishing for black rockfish and lingcod continues to be very good out of Westport. The ocean was beautiful today and it looks like the weather will continue to hold throughout the week.

It's been a blustery week with no fishing out on the ocean since last Sunday. Both Rockfish and Lingcod catches have been very good when the ocean has allowed us to go. It looks like the next possible day will most likely be Wednesday April 4th.

Well folks, welcome back for another season of fishing at Westport. We have been fishing for Lingcod and Rockfish for a week now and fishing has been very good for both species. The ocean is calm this weekend and boats are getting limits or close to limits. Also, we have noticed big numbers of Salmon right now, though these will most likely not be the same run of Chinook we will be fishing on later in the season, we think it is a good sign. Once again, welcome to the 2012 season in Westport we hope to see you all out here soon.
